Mary Alice Harbison, M.D.

Dr. Mary Alice Harbison, a native of Nashville, Tenn., joined Lifesigns in December 2006. She brings a wealth of medical knowledge to Lifesigns.

She received her bachelor’s degree from Yale University and doctorate of medicine from Vanderbilt Medical School.

Upon graduation she received postdoctoral training at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville and Beth Israel Hospital, New England Deaconess Hospital and Harvard Medical School all in Boston, Mass.

She is certified by the American Boards of Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases, and has worked at several organizations in Nashville over the years, including the Department of Veterans’ Affairs Medical Center, Saint Thomas Hospital and Saint Thomas Health Services Charity Clinic.

Dr. Harbison is a member of the Infectious Disease Society of America and the American College of Physicians and has served on several committees within the community. She has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Saint Thomas Women of Achievement Award and was named a fellow in the American College of Physicians in 2004. 


Robert Belihar, M.D., M.S., M.P.H

Dr. Belihar, who joined Lifesigns in June, 2003, has been certified by the American Boards of Preventive Medicine, Anti-Aging Medicine and Ophthalmology. In addition to receiving his doctorate in medicine, he has been awarded master’s degrees in science and public health. 

He completed a highly successful career in the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of brigadier general. During his tour in the military, he held a wide range of positions, ranging from squadron flight surgeon to command surgeon at United States Central Command under General H. Norman Schwarzkopf.

Dr. Belihar remains active in clinical practice, serving as medical director for Lifesigns in Nashville, Tenn. He is an ardent advocate of a healthy lifestyle as the primary approach to disease management and healthy aging, and is a sought-after speaker on that subject. Widely traveled, he has visited 66 countries. Touched by the suffering he has witnessed in the third world, Dr. Belihar participates regularly in medical missions overseas.

He and his wife, Anita, reside in Franklin, Tenn. They have three children and seven grandchildren in the Nashville area.
